Musicality
Dancing is all about expressing the music with your body, but sometimes people find it difficult to find the beat or maintain it whilst they are dancing. Salsa music is quite complex rhythmically, but there are lots of patterns to it, and knowing what they are can really help you to hear and understand the music more clearly. At a more advanced level, anticipating the phrasing and the breaks in the music can help you to express the music in your dancing, giving you a whole new level of enjoyment.
We have 3 fantastic video collections at different levels:
Help with the Music
Struggling to find the 1? Found it, but then can’t keep your steps in time? Our collection of 5 online classes will help you find the beat and maintain your timing in salsa. Salsa music is quite complex and it can often be difficult to find which beat to use for your steps, so dancing in time is one of the biggest hurdles to overcome. Different aspects of the music are clearly explained with examples and exercises to help you understand the music better, and to fit your steps to the different instruments.
Dance with the Music
Seen people making their moves fit the music? How do they do it? You might think they know every track inside out – sometimes they might do, but often they just understand how salsa music is likely to be phrased and can predict what is likely to happen next. That might sound like it would be incredibly complex and take years to learn, but there are all sorts of things you can pick up quite easily, if you are shown how to listen out for a few clues.
Advanced Salsa Musicality
Do you want to dance with the breaks & adapt your footwork to fit the instruments? Discover about the Bombo and the Ponché, and how they are used by different salsa instruments, particularly the congas, bass, clave & piano. Enhance the musicality of your dancing by adapting your footwork to use these important elements of salsa, as well as understanding how breaks in salsa are often phrased around them. Also learn about the Cascara and how you can dance to it, whether you dance On1 or On2.
One positive that can be taken from the Covid Lockdowns is that we finally got around to recording lots of video classes!
The videos are recorded in HD so should be high quality if viewed on a big screen TV. Huge thanks to Elaine Greenwood & Rob Havill for helping us to make these videos.
Originally, the videos were recorded for a weekly subscription with new content each week, but we have compiled some course collections which are now available to purchase and view as many times as you wish.
We have lots more content, so we will add more collections in the future…
